Thyme White – Thymus vulgaris
There are many species of thyme and the best way to ensure you are buying the Thyme that best suits your needs is the know the Latin name of the one you want. We stock Thymus Vulgaris which has the most useful therapeutic values but there is also Thymus mastichina (Wild Thyme) and Thymus capitatus (Spanish Thyme). Even Thymus Vulgaris has several subgroups so it is quite easy to buy a cheaper inferior oil.
Thyme has strongly antiseptic properties which have been recognised by several civilisations across the ages from the Romans in Europe where the herb grows in abundance. During the Middle Ages and of course, the Egyptians with their wealth of herbal knowledge also valued its properties.
Furthermore, the aroma is very herbaceous. It is little wonder that an oil like Rosemary is very useful in aiding the memory and helping concentration, so if studying for exams it would be another good oil to consider. It is also said to strengthen the nerves so when the exam arrives it could be of use. Thyme White is also said to have many analgesic qualities which are especially helpful for many of the muscular and joint aches and pains we tend to suffer from as we mature or even if we overdo things.
Lastly, Thyme is a wonderful oil, it is one of the stronger ones and as such should be used with respect. Use lower dilutions than you would some other oils and do discontinue use if a rash or other side effects occur. One of our best oils to use about the house, check out the blog on oils for cleaning for a few hand recipes to use to help keep your house clean the natural way.
