Methods of Use
Massage
Add 1 – 2 drops of essential oil to 2 ml of carrier oil, gently shake before use to ensure the oil is well dispersed.
Each essential oil can have up to 100 active ingredients so for this reason we recommend that no more than 4 different oils should be used in one blend.
It doesn’t matter whether you use one or four different oils it is the ratio that is important, so if you are making up a 50ml blend to use you can put between 25 – 50 drops depending on the strength of blend you require. The amount of each essential oil does not have to be even but stick to the golden rule of not putting more than 1 – 2 drops of essential oil to 2 ml of carrier oil.
Which carrier oil, well that again will depend on what the blend is for, they all have their own therapeutic values.
If you merely need a base for the essential oils you cannot go wrong with Grapeseed which has super absorbency, but if the skin needs nourishing well Almond would be a better choice.

Burner
Use 3 – 5 drops of essential oil depending on the size of the bowl and of the room. Put hot tap water into the bowl of the burner before adding the essential oils of your choice. Avoid letting the bowl dry out and clean thoroughly between use.
Reed Diffuser
Keep your diffuser in a high-traffic, central area of your room or home for the best results. Pour your chosen essential oil and carrier oil into the reservoir. Unlike other diffusers, reed diffusers don’t allow you to swap out new scents easily os pick an oil that you like for long-term usage.
There’s no right amount of oil to pour into the diffuser. Add the reeds to the diffuser. Spread them out so they are separate and all point in different directions for a more even diffusion of oil. The oil will begin absorbing into the reeds and slowly filling your room with the aroma of the oil. The more reeds that you use, the stronger the aroma will be. Flip the reeds to refresh the oils and the aroma every week or so.
Radiators
Use 1 – 8 drops of essential oil. This is a sneaky method of using an essential oil if you want to help someone who may be down and in need of a lift. Put the essential oil onto a bit of cloth or tissue and lay over a hot radiator or any hot pipes in the home. It will just gently infuse the air with the therapeutic values of the oil you have chosen.
Inhalation
Use 2 – 3 drops of essential oil. The best method to unblock those passages. Add the required essential oils to a bowl of hot water, cover your head with a towel and breathe deeply through your nose for about one minute. I suggest you find the right strength for you as everyone is different.
Electric Diffusers
All our oils are safe to use in electric diffusers. However, each diffuser may have specific instructions, so please refer to the product manual and follow necessary guidelines.
Candles
You can use just 1 type of essential oil, or you can mix-and-match difference oils to create a more unique fragrance. How much you add is up to you this is because the strength of the aroma is very personal, some people like an “in your face aroma” whereas others prefer a more subtle background aroma.
Secondly, it would depend on the oil you are thinking of using for instance if you are planning on using say Mandarin then you would need a higher percentage than if you were using Clove.
But as a rough guide we suggest around 6% -8% dilution of essential oil.
Humidifiers
Add 1 – 9 drops of your chosen essential oil to the water.
Sitz Bath
Use 2 – 3 drops of essential oil. Add the essential oils of your choice to a bath or large bowl of warm water, agitate thoroughly to ensure complete dispersal before sitting in the water for at least 10 minutes swishing the water gently.
This method is ideal for a range of conditions making the area sore and uncomfortable but do check that the oils you are intending to use do not irritate the delicate mucus membranes.
Vacuuming
Put a few drops of your chosen oil onto a cotton wool ball or tissue and suck it up into the dust container. As you clean your house the warmth of the appliance will heat the cotton wool ball realising its aroma.
Pulse Points
Add 1 – 2 drops of essential oil per 2ml of carrier oil. This is an excellent method of using the essential oils when out especially if you know you are going to be in stressful conditions. Make a suitable blend of oil and put it in a small container then apply to the pulse points when required. There are several of these points around the body but the most useful can be found two finger widths below the base of the hand.
Hand or Foot Soak
Use 2 – 6 drops of essential oil. Add the essential oils to a bowl of comfortably warm water and soak your hands or feet for no more than 20 minutes.
Showers
Use 4 – 6 drops of essential oil. After washing add the essential oil to a cloth and rub briskly while still under the running water breathing deeply to maximise the benefits.
Sauna
Use 4 – 6 drops of essential oil in every 300ml of water used. Mix the oils with the water before throwing it onto the heat source. Eucalyptus, Pine or Tea Tree are all excellent choices for their uplifting cleansing properties. Especially useful if a group of people are all using the sauna together.
Room Spray
Use 4 – 6 drops of essential oil per 300ml of bottled water used. Use a plant sprayer kept especially for the purpose. Add the essential oils of your choice to warm water and shake well. Spray into the air avoiding any wood as it may mark. Electronic equipment may not enjoy this treatment either so keep away from televisions, computers etc.
