Sandalwood oil is one of the most beautiful essential oils but has been struggling in recent years. The very best quality Sandalwood oil comes from Mysore in India. But to obtain the oil the tree has to be chopped down and of course, its replacement takes years to come to maturity. To manage the trees the Indian government decided to restrict the felling of the Sandalwood trees.
Subsequently, this has had a profound effect on production, resulting in a dramatic increase in its price overnight. That was several years ago and now genuine Indian Sandalwood is very hard to find. Fortunately, both Australia and Africa have stepped in to fill the gap and we can now offer a decent quality oil that remains one of my favourites.
The soft woody aroma is useful for emotions. Said to be effective for reducing obsessional behaviour. Helpful during times of bereavement due to its ability to deal with grief and feelings of isolation. It is also sedative in nature, which is soothing for nervous tension and a calming oil on the nerves in general.
Its relaxing nature extends to the muscles where it is effective when suffering from muscle spasms. This essential oil is perfect for use in aromatherapy and massage therapy. Its natural formula helps to promote relaxation and reduce stress and anxiety, leaving you feeling calm and centered.
The soft gentle nature of Sandalwood makes it a good oil to use on several skin conditions being particularly good to use on dry aged skin. Chapped lips and cracked skin on the fingers can also be soothed with its use. Said to increase water retention of collagen so will probably aid in the delay of wrinkles. A soothing oil to use if you are making an aftershave balm.
